On Wednesday, December 4, 2019, the Munk Debate will convene a debate that touches on everything from the 2020 U.S. election cycle to climate change to economic inequality: The capitalist system is broken. It’s time to try something different.

Arguing the affirmative is Katrina vanden Heuvel, Editorial Director and Publisher of The Nation, and Washington Post columnist. She will be joined by Yanis Varoufakis, the former Finance Minister of Greece. He is an economist, academic, and author of the bestseller, Adults in the Room: My Battle with the European and American Deep Establishment.

Speaking against the resolution is Arthur Brooks, Harvard professor and bestselling author of The Conservative Heart: How to Build a Fairer, Happier, and More Prosperous America. He is joined by New York Times columnist, political commentator, and bestselling author, David Brooks. Brooks is a commentator on “PBS NewsHour,” NPR’s “All Things Considered” and NBC’s “Meet the Press.” His most recent book is the New York Times bestseller, The Second Mountain: The Quest for a Moral Life.
