TSO presents
In collaboration with Soundstreams, the TSO celebrates Steve Reich’s 85th birthday with the Canadian Première of his first orchestral work in 30 years, a reimagining of traditional Baroque style. Robert Schumann was a master of heartfelt, noble symphonies that exalt the human spirit and instil in the listener a joy for life, and his radiant Second Symphony—which includes references to J.S. Bach—teems with feisty energy and chorale-like grandeur, before erupting into a triumphant ending. “As I see it, music should move the heart emotionally,” C.P.E. Bach declared, and his pioneering Third Symphony packs a torrent of emotion into just 10 minutes.
